How the scores work
Each word shows its face value using standard Scrabble letter values: A, E, I, O, U, L, N, S, T and R score 1; D and G score 2; B, C, M and P score 3; F, H, V, W and Y score 4; K scores 5; J and X score 8; Q and Z score 10. A blank (?) scores 0. The finder does not know your board, so it cannot add premium squares, cross-words or the 50-point bonus for using all seven tiles. Use the score as a guide to which words are worth looking for a good spot for.
Worked example
With the rack AEQRTU?, the finder shows seven-letter options using the blank, such as QUARTET and EQUATOR, as well as shorter high scorers such as QUART and QUOTA. QUARTET shows 15 points rather than 16, because one of its two Ts has to come from the blank, which is worth nothing.
Getting more from your rack
- Use "Contains" to find words through a letter already on the board. Add that letter to your rack as well, so the finder knows it is available.
- Use "Ends with" set to S to find plurals you can hook onto existing words.
- If your rack is full of vowels or consonants, look at short words that use several of them, and read our strategy guide on rack balance.
The finder uses the ENABLE list, which is close to, but not the same as, the official lists used in clubs and tournaments. If you play competitively, check doubtful words against your game's dictionary.
Frequently asked questions
Which dictionary does PuzleFix use?
The ENABLE word list, a public-domain list of about 172,800 English words compiled for word games. We removed 73 offensive slurs. ENABLE is not an official tournament dictionary, so a few words allowed in your game may be missing and a few listed here may not be allowed.
Is QI allowed?
QI and ZA are accepted in current official Scrabble lists, but they are not in ENABLE, so the finder does not show them. Check your own game's rules.
Does it work for Words With Friends or Wordfeud?
Yes for finding words, but those games use different letter values, so the scores shown here will not match.
