Check a Word

Check whether a word is in the ENABLE list and see its Scrabble-style tile score.

What this checker tells you

The checker looks the word up in the ENABLE word list, the same list used by every PuzleFix tool. If the word is there, it shows the tile score using standard Scrabble values. If it is not, that does not prove the word is invalid in your game. Different games use different lists: ENABLE was compiled as an open alternative to official dictionaries, and newer additions to official lists, such as QI and ZA, are not included.

Settling disputes fairly

Agree on a dictionary before you start a game. For casual games, a free list such as ENABLE is a fair referee. For club or tournament play, use the list your organisation names. If a word is challenged, check the exact spelling, including plurals and verb endings, because a word can be valid in one form and not another.

Examples

  • QOPH (a Hebrew letter) is in the list and scores 18.
  • CWM (a valley shaped like a bowl) is in the list and scores 10.
  • QI is not in ENABLE, although it is accepted in current official Scrabble lists.

Frequently asked questions

Does the checker give definitions?

No. ENABLE is a word list, not a dictionary with meanings. Use a full dictionary to check what a word means.
