Word Game Tips

Practical techniques for finding more words from the same letters.

Start with vowels

Separate vowels and consonants first. Most playable words need a workable vowel pattern, so this quickly removes impossible combinations.

Look for hooks

Short add-on letters such as S, D, R and Y can turn a known word into a higher-scoring extension.

Try common endings

Check endings like -ED, -ER, -ING, -LY and -S. Endings often unlock longer words from an awkward rack.

Do not ignore short words

Two- and three-letter words can open premium squares, clear bad tiles and create multiple scoring lines.
